I never was a big fan of online dating but I just kept seeing TV commercials for Christian Mingle while I was on a trip for work and made a plan to join when I got home. I made a profile and began dating a few guys who lived near me in Chicago.
A few months into it I made the big decision to cut back my work hours to something more reasonable, like only 40 hours a week, so I could be available to date. About two weeks later I got my first email communication from my now husband. He had just joined the site and seemed really interested in getting to know me.
In late August of 2011 we met at a Chicago neighborhood street fair. I thought perhaps he would stick around for an hour or two but we spent 8 hours together that day. At the end of the night I offered him a ride home. The proud CTA rider wouldn't accept my help even though I was not about to back down. Like the smart man he is, he eventually let me have my way. As we rode through the Chicago city streets I realized he only lived 6 miles away. The conversation in the car seemed a bit awkward and I could tell he was rather nervous. When we pulled up to the three flat where he was living I thought, "I can't get out and walk him to the door, that would be weird!" So as we said our goodbyes he grabbed my hand and kissed it. I was so taken back by his forwardness and also his gentlemanly ways that I was rendered dumbfounded.
Like a good girl I kept him wanting more. Even when he would try and kiss me I would wiggle away and tell him he had to wait for it. After several weeks of dating we had taken a walk to the lakefront. While seated on the park bench he told me that he didn't want to date anyone else. A few minutes later we were kissing and it felt amazing to share that with him. As we strode away I told him how fast my heart was beating and that this had been my first kiss in at least 10 years.
Less than four months later were returned to the same spot facing the lake. This time it was a very cold morning on New Years Day. My dearest took of his hat and got on one knee and pulled out my mother's ring and ask for me to be his wife. I replied, "Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes!" We met and were married in eight months. A whorl wind love affair began with an email.
